About au-pair.org: An Independent International Au Pair Information Center
au-pair.org is an independent international information center about au pair programs. We exist to answer one question well: How does an au pair stay work — fairly, legally and safely — for both sides?
What we do
We explain au pair programs worldwide: how they work, what they cost, which rules apply, what rights and duties both sides have, how visas work and how to stay safe. Our content is written for first-time au pairs and host families and is available in English and German.
What we deliberately don't do
- We do not operate a matching database or host profiles
- We do not place au pairs or families and charge no placement fees
- We do not provide legal, tax or visa advice for individual cases
Where placement services are useful, we point to the two established routes — full-service agencies and matching platforms — and explain how to choose between them on our comparison page.
Our editorial principles
- Neutrality: we describe programs and provider models without sales pressure.
- Caution: where rules change frequently — visas, pocket money rates — we say so and point to official sources.
- Both perspectives: every topic is written for au pairs and host families.
- Plain language: the program should be understandable before any commitment is made.
